We are in Canada for the year while I am on sabbatical.

The bolts are stuck on the casing when I go to change the headlight on my car. It takes a socket wrench and a lot of swearing, but I finally get them out. Pushing up my glasses with greasy hands, I unknowingly leave a long black smudge down my nose.

"What are you doing, Dad?", Lucy asks, coming out of the house.

"Fixing the car."

"Oh," she says, looking at my face, "Are you fixing it with your nose?"
