I'm walking down the street, and everything smells of onion soup. I look, expecting to find a overturned bag of dehydrated onions, or perhaps a fellow dipping roast beef into his soup. The only thing I can see that might explain the smell is a bag of onions leaning against a wall.

Actually, yeah. That explains the smell very well.

Dehydrated onions are a funny thing here in Korea. They are uncommon. Except at Costco, where they are put out as a condiment for the hot-dogs. But they aren't eaten as a condiment. In Korea it is expected that every meal comes with side dishes. But at Costco they only provide ketchup, mustard, and dehydrated onions. As you walk past the food-court at the Costco you will inevitably see several couples splitting a heaping plate of dehydrated onions, which they have mixed with mustard and ketchup.

Delicious!
