On his podcast, Seth Meyer mentions Peter Falk, but he doesn't pronounce the 'L'.

Of course the 'L' is silent, as in walk or talk. But I've never heard it said before? In all my years watching Columbo, every time I saw the credit on the screen, I read it with a pronounced 'L'.

Why would I have heard the name? Columbo was in repeats when I started watching it.

But he was a big deal in the 60s. My parents must have known I was mispronouncing his name when I gleefully related to them how Columbo had caught the celebrity murderer.

But they never said anything. Well, they never said anything to me.

At their nightly report on family issues:

Karen: John, Mark was talking about Peter Falk today. He said it with a hard 'L'.

John: Yeah. I've noticed that before. He's such a git. I vote that we let him go on mispronouncing it.

Karen: Yeah. He's getting too arrogant. Let's let him go on speaking like an idiot. Let him be corrected one day in front of a jeering crowd of his peers.

John: Good, that's settled then. Next issue. What about that smell coming from the younger boy's room. Should I build more shelves?

I think I heard my daughters having a similar conversion recently about my Korean pronunciation.
