At Haneda airport we take a bus from the terminal to the access port to the plane.  We are all herded along a hallway in the access port building and up an escalator. It feels hectic. An older man,  early 50s, is just ahead of me as we get on the escalator. He looks a little unstable. A little scared.

I put a steadying hand on the small of his back. "It's alright," I reassure him.  "I've got you."

"Thanks," he says,  as he dismounts at the top of the escalator,  "That was a little scary."
