There is a clever trick that a 500ml bottle of beer will play that a 355ml bottle would never dare to.
Until recently, beer in Korea was just piss. It was really just something to mix into soju to weaken it and give it some fizz. A sort of Beirschorle. I would look forward to Friday night when I would walk to the corner store with my two nickles and buy a plastic one litre bottle of piss. Sometimes Hite, sometimes Cass, sometimes that other one. It didn't really matter. There was a nicer dark piss - Stout - but I had to walk a bit further to get my plastic growler of that.
Sure you could go get some Asahi or Guinness at the supermarket for 6 bucks for a can; but not on a Professor's salary.
And then, about two years ago, the Premium beers start showing up: OB Premium, Aleston, and Kloud. Quite nice beers, and about the same price as the piss, only they don't come in the cheaper plastic growlers.
My Friday custom is now to walk to the balcony and grab a couple of 500ml bottles of Kloud that I have bought at the Costco for 16 bucks for the dozen.
Here is the clever trick that a 500ml bottle of Kloud does. I open it up, take a drink, and then put it down on the table. Putting it down shakes it up enough that it starts bubbling out all over the table. Years of drinking from 355ml bottles, and this has never happened. But it happens to me about every second or third friday with my Kloud 500mls.
