Recently, Eunjoo reads Lucy to sleep every night. Four or five books, over and over, until, if all goes well, Lucy gets sleepy and nods off. If all doesn't go well, Eunjoo gets sleepy, and nods off, only to having a crying Lucy wake her up, and start it over again. I stay out of it-- it isn't my problem.
Tonight Lucy is getting ready for bed. While I am sitting on the couch watching The League on my phone, Eunjoo brushes Lucy's teeth, gets her into her pyjamas, spanks her, and turns down the lights. As Eunjoo is herding Lucy into the bedroom Lucy collects up all of the books she can. It isn't my problem. But I hear the following exchange.
Eunjoo, exhausted, looks askance at the number of books Lucy has collected, and asks, "Lucy, aren't you tired?"
"Yes." Lucy replies.
"Then what do you need all those books for? You are going to fall asleep."
"I know," says Lucy, "I need the books because I don't want Mommy to fall asleep."
